Filipino journalist Jaime FlorCruz has been a witness to China’s progress while working as a foreign correspondent in China for some 40 years, having a front-row view of historic events and developments in the country. FlorCruz first arrived in China in 1971 as a student leader, and ended up being admitted to Peking University’s famous Class of ’77. His classmates went on to become pioneers in China. FlorCruz himself became one of the top foreign correspondents in China, as bureau chief for both TIME magazine and CNN, spending 40 years reporting on the fast changing country. FlorCruz retired from CNN in 2014, but he is still telling China stories. He has recently authored a book based on his experience: “The Class of ’77: How My Classmates Changed China.”
