The Chinese government has wrapped up a ceremony in #Beijing that celebrated the eradication of extreme poverty after a lengthy campaign. President #XiJinping handed out tokens of recognition to role models and groups in the nation’s battle against poverty. About 770 million impoverished rural residents in China have shaken off poverty since the launch of reform and opening-up in the late 1970s, contributing more than 70 percent to global #poverty eradication efforts. It is also a big step toward completing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Earlier, Tian Wei had a chance to interview new UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee, who said the world today needs to regain momentum in achieving the UNSDGs, and China’s path to poverty eradication offers insights that the world can learn from.
