Over 1 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine have now been administered in China. The country’s National Health Commission said 1,010,489,000 shots were into the arms of citizens as of June 19, 2021, but it remained unclear how much of the population was fully vaccinated, since data is rarely further broken down. In the capital city Beijing, more than 80 per cent of the people are vaccinated against the coronavirus. China aims to vaccinate 40 per cent of its 1.4 billion population before July. Local outbreaks, including in the southern city of Guangzhou, have added urgency to the vaccine campaign.
