Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation accounted for a quarter of the world’s carbon emissions. COVID-19 not only disrupted international aviation but also supply chains relying on cargo ships and trucks. It is in this climate that many nations including China have announced target dates for achieving carbon neutrality. Transportation can be part of the solution and not the problem. China is already helping other developing nations in fields such as renewable technology and high speed rail. CGTN’s Tian Wei spoke to UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin to find out more.
