Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “China’s behaviour is doing its own people ‘a great disservice'” – below is their description.
Liberal Senator Eric Abetz says when China imposes trade sanctions on Australia, the country is in fact “occasioning difficulty to their own Chinese citizens”. Mr Abetz said China doesn’t buy Australia’s wine, barley, coal or iron-ore “because they like us”. “They buy it because it’s a high-quality product”. “We have reliability of supply and we have a reasonable price on the commodity,” he told Sky News host Peter Gleeson. “So, when they put these sort of trade sanctions on us, they are in fact cutting off their nose to spite their face,” he said. “And that is why this dictatorship’s behaviour, belligerent as it is, is doing their own people a great disservice”. Mr Abetz’s comments come after almost $700 million worth of Australian coal is reportedly being held at Chinese ports due to alleged problems with environmental standards.
