China’s State Council released a white paper on August 10 regarding the Taiwan question and the reunification of China in the new era. The document reaffirms the indisputable fact and status quo that Taiwan is part of China. It says the Communist Party of China (CPC) has always been making efforts to realize complete reunification. The white paper stresses the process of reunification cannot be halted, because the CPC and the Chinese government have the strength and the confidence to deal with complexities and overcome risks and threats. It reviews the Chinese government’s concrete efforts to promote peaceful cross-Strait relations, integrate the development of the two sides, and work towards national reunification. The paper concludes with a statement that there are bright prospects for peaceful reunification.
