South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “China-Laos railway set to open in latest advance for Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative” – below is their description.
Final touches were being put on the China-Laos railway on the eve of its December 3, 2021, opening. Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith will be joined virtually by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for the opening ceremony which will also mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The China-funded project, part of Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative meant to grow global trade, will eventually be expanded so the railway connects the Chinese city of Yunnan with Singapore, passing through Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia.
