As Chinese authorities assess the damage caused by a deadly earthquake anger erupts over strict COVID lockdown measures which prevented residents in Chengdu from leaving their homes. Graeme Smith, Fellow at the Department of Pacific Affairs at the ANU and co-host of The Little Red Podcast, says the strict lockdown measures are expected to continue until China’s Party Congress in October where President Xi Jinping is expected to be given a third term in office.
