Some critical tunnel boring jobs have been completed as work continues on the East Coast Rail Link, a China-led project that aims to connect Malaysia’s eastern states of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan with the nation’s largest city Kuala Lumpur and its western ports. The 665km (413-mile) railway is being built by the China Communications Construction Company under the Belt and Road Initiative. Costing about US$12.08 billion, the line is the second-largest project proposed for Malaysia under China’s initiative meant to grow global trade.
