South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “China attacks BBC a day after UK revokes licence of Chinese state broadcaster CGTN” – below is their description.
British public broadcaster BBC came under fire from Beijing who accused the media outlet of spreading “fake news” against China, while BBC insisted its reporting is fair and unbiased.
The dispute came a day after Britain’s media regulator Ofcom revoked the television licence of China’s state-owned CGTN on February 5, 2021, in wake of an investigation concluding that the Chinese Communist Party had ultimate editorial responsibility for the channel. Ofcom states that no broadcaster in Britain should be controlled or owned by a political body.
