Chile teachers defy orders to reopen schools after COVID outbreak ebbs

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Chile teachers defy orders to reopen schools after COVID outbreak ebbs” – below is their description.

Schools in Chile are now reopening after nearly one-and-a-half years as COVID-19 cases drop sharply in the country.

Sixty percent of its population has been vaccinated but worries remain for the children who are mostly unvaccinated, especially as the Delta variant takes hold.

And the reopening has exposed glaring disparities between the more affluent schools and the ones in poorer neighbourhoods.

Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Santiago, Chile.
