The annual arrival of springtime in Vancouver means the city is alive with an explosion of beautiful flowering cherry trees. Large crowds of people were seen in East Vancouver this week, trying to capture the perfect pink blooms in all of their glory.

Cherry blossom viewing is a popular pastime around the world, and this year those appreciating the flowers are encouraged to follow proper COVID-19 safety measures when viewing.

According to the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival website, there are more than 50 varieties of cherry trees in the region, and many of Vancouver’s 43,000 trees originated as gifts from Japan since the 1930s. All bloom at slightly various times and for only about two weeks of the year.
