Chaotic rail strike planned for Sydney | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Chaotic rail strike planned for Sydney | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

The chaos impacting Sydney’s train network will ramp-up on Wednesday with the city’s south and south-west being the target of cancelled rail services. It’s all part of a union campaign of rolling stoppages, which includes opal gates being kept open so when there is a service, passengers can travel for free.

Rail unions and the NSW Government are still divided over demands to modify new intercity trains that the unions say are unsafe. The industrial action, by the union, began in September last year, and some issues have still not been resolved.

The chaotic strike action will impact passengers on Wednesday when train crews will only operate trains that ‘meet maintenance centre minimum standards.’ And, on the same day, the union says that there will be strike action between 10am & 4pm in ‘Area 2.’ The RTBU has informed the following staff to participate in the ‘Area 2’ strike action: shunters, drivers, infrastructure, transport officers, fleet maintenance, cleaners, guards, on-boarders, station staff, salaried staff, shift managers, standards and compliance & trainers. This action will result in the cancellation of thousands of services.

A statement on the RTBU website nominates these locations as being part of ‘Area 2’:
