After the historic defeat in last year’s general election, Labour’s next leader faces a monumental task to rebuild a new coalition of support as their base lies in tatters.
Aired by broadcaster Channel 4, Labour leadership candidates’ Lisa Nandy, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Sir Keir Starmer debated transgender rights, Labour’s antisemitism problem and their party’s policies.
When asked by an audience member about the death of Caroline Flack, Rebecca Long-Bailey said, “It costs nothing to be kind and that costs nothing and it comes from leadership from government.”
As the shortlist for Labour leader is whittled down to three, whoever emerges victorious will have to align the party more closely to the pulse of the nation.
