ITV News published this video item, entitled “Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow reflects on the foot and mouth disaster 20 years on | ITV News” – below is their description.

It’s been 20 years since the foot and mouth epidemic hit the UK. Cumbria was the worst affected area with 893 separate outbreaks

Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow reported on the crisis in 2001. It had such an impression on him at the time that he said Cumbria was “seared upon his soul.” He said nothing in 25 years of reporting domestic news had prepared him for the scale of human trauma he experienced that year. Jon spoke with ITV Border’s Ian Payne.
