Speaking at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng acknowledged that his tax-cutting mini-budget caused economic turmoil, saying: “I know the plan we put forward 10 days ago caused a little turbulence. I get it.”

The mini-budget was to give the wealthiest 1% a tax cut – however, the plans were axed after a bitter backlash from Tory MPs.
