Boris Johnson sounded cautious at his news conference this afternoon, and even talked of bringing in a new restriction on nightclubs – which had only reopened at midnight – along with other crowded venues.

From the end of September no one will be allowed in without proof of two vaccinations.

But whereas clubbers got their big night out, tonight’s opening of the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cinderalla has been cancelled.

One cast member tested positive — so others had to self isolate. Lord Lloyd-Webber told us it was unfair
