The National Hurricane Center (NHC) confirmed Hurricane Delta made landfall on the eastern coast of Mexico early on Wednesday, October 7. The storm brought heavy rain, winds up to 110 mph, and life-threatening storm surge to the Yucatán Peninsula. Footage filmed by Adrián Melendez shows damage in Cancún within the hotel zone – a resort-studded stretch on the southeastern coast of Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo. Tourists had evacuated inland and fled to airports ahead of the storm. Residents in Cancún surveyed the damage caused by the Category 2 storm on Wednesday morning, reporting downed trees and damaged property. The NHC said that southern US states, particularly Louisiana and Mississippi, should expect storm impacts by Friday.
