A large police operation targeting drug traffickers in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has ended with the deaths of at least 25 people, including one officer.

Police say those killed included leaders of the city’s biggest criminal gang.

But human rights activists have questioned the raid and are calling for a thorough investigation.
