Carey Mulligan moans about a review, Variety apologizes, so why have critics?

RT published this video item, entitled “Carey Mulligan moans about a review, Variety apologizes, so why have critics?” – below is their description.

The film ‘Promising Young Woman’ has just received four Golden Globe nominations – but that’s not why it made the news.

A review of the film in Variety magazine upset its star, Carey Mulligan, who believed the writer, Dennis Harvey, was attacking her looks. This led to the magazine prefacing his opinion with a groveling apology.

Andrew Dickens thinks this raises a few questions, not least: if editors are going to apologize for reviews, why bother having critics at all?
