Car stolen from Rouse Hill, sparks police chase, ends at Schofields | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Car stolen from Rouse Hill, sparks police chase, ends at Schofields | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

It’s fast becoming one of Sydney’s most common and dangerous crimes. Teenage hoons stealing high performance cars to outrun police. 7NEWS has been supplied terrifying vision, from a police helicopter, that shows the risks taken in Sydney’s northwest.

It was incredibly lucky that no one was killed during the pursuit that reached speeds of over 200 kilometres an hour. But, what’s even more shocking is the ages of those involved – two boys aged just 14 and 16-years-old.

A BMW was stolen from a home at Rouse Hill just after 4am. That theft was captured on CCTV. The owner is furious – those responsible entered his home to take the keys with his wife and young children inside.

What followed was a pursuit lasted almost an hour and a half through the streets of Sydney’s north west. The police helicopter tracked the stolen car into an underground carpark on Jacquie Avenue Schofields where the two teens ditched it, and then tried to blend in with shoppers at Coles before police finally caught up with them.

Those two were placed under arrest as police work to track down who else might have been involved in this morning’s theft. They’re investigating whether this pursuit is part of a worrying trend where young people are deliberately getting involved in police chases to gain notoriety for videos posted to social media.

The pair have spent the day being questioned at Riverstone police station ahead of their appearance in the children’s court.
