Canadian government and public health officials are expected to provide an update Friday on the latest response to COVID-19.
According to the World Health Organization, deaths related to COVID-19 have dropped globally by 21 per cent in the past week but cases have still risen in most parts of the globe.
Officials will likely also address monkeypox, after confirming its first two cases, as concern grows over the spread of the viral infection in multiple countries.
Monkeypox is a zoonotic infectious disease that results in occasional human infections usually associated with exposure to infected animals or contaminated materials, according to PHAC.
