Canadian health officials are expected to provide an update on Thursday on the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the ongoing monkeypox outbreak in the country.

On Wednesday, the Public Health Agency of Canada said random COVID-19 testing of fully vaccinated travellers would continue to be paused at all airports until mid-July. However, the government also extended current border measures for those entering Canada until at least Sept. 30, including the mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app.

Quebec is dealing with the arrival of new variants of the novel coronavirus, which Boileau said are more transmissible but not necessarily more severe.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommended that people receive COVID-19 vaccine booster shots this fall in advance of a possible future wave of the virus in Canada.

Monkeypox still remains a concern in the country as well, with PHAC reporting a total of 276 cases n Canada as of Wednesday. Four have been identified in B.C., five in Alberta, 67 in Ontario and 202 in Quebec.
