Born in Canada, grew up in Bali, Indonesia and educated in the United States, Canadian designer Elora Hardy finally decided to move back to Bali and create buildings made of bamboo and other natural materials along with her dad and team.
“Bamboo was an offering to the future, a promise to the kids, that there could be a bountiful future.” Hardy explains why choosing bamboo as the materials. They have built more than 90 unique buildings, including Green School Bali campus, a school in the middle of the jungle, designed to have the lowest carbon footprint possible.
Leading a team and creating new designs are a long stream of challenges, but Hardy loves these challenges and is trying new possibilities working on other natural materials to “open up a new world for people.” For her work on bamboo buildings, Hardy was named an Architectural Digest Innovator in 2013.
