Global News published this video item, entitled “Canada’s top doctor says discussion on COVID-19 booster shots still “evolving” | FULL” – below is their description.
Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam said on Thursday that they are still looking at the data and that their discussions on COVID-19 booster shots is still “evolving” when asked if Canada would follow the moratorium request by the World Health Organization (WHO) on booster shots until at least the end of September. WHO made the request on Wednesday to allow lower income countries, where much of the population still needed their first dose, better access to the global vaccine supply.
Dr. Tam also reminded Canadians who have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose to get their second dose saying “it’s very important especially given the Delta variant,” she said.
When asked about the reopening of the border and the prevalence of the Delta variant, Dr. Tam said modelling shows if a fourth wave were to occur it would likely be “driven by a domestic transmission event rather than importation cases.”
Regarding possibly mandating vaccines to federal workers, something Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his office is looking into, Tam said “every option is being examined and how to ensure our workplace is safe for everyone” and they are “looking at who the federal employees are interacting with and whether they’re at high risk,” Tam said.
