Global News published this video item, entitled “Canada willing to stay in Afghanistan past Aug. 31 deadline, Trudeau says” – below is their description.
Speaking after what he called a “frank” discussion with other G7 leaders, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that Canada was willing to stay in Afghanistan beyond the Aug. 31 deadline that Washington has set for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
A Taliban spokesperson has said no extension to the deadline would be granted.
Trudeau, who has been questioned about his ability to handle the crisis in the midst of a federal election campaign, said that Canada has brought more than 2,000 people to safety in recent weeks.
Trudeau said Canada is “highly skeptical” of the Taliban’s claims that it is a changed organization from 20 years ago, adding that the group remains on Canada’s list of terrorist entities.
