Global News published this video item, entitled “Canada to provide update on changes to COVID-19 border rules | LIVE” – below is their description.

The Canadian government is expected to announce plans to scrap the country’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate at the border and make the ArriveCan app optional for travellers entering Canada, Global News has learned.

Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino and Tranpsort Minister Omar Alghabra will be joined by Treasury Board President Mona Fortier and Intergovernmental Affairs and Infrastructure Minister Dominic LeBlanc for an update Monday on the country’s COVID-19 border rules.

Until now, foreign nationals were typically not allowed to travel to Canada unless they had completed a primary series of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, unless they qualilfied for an exception. The current border measures were set to expire on Sept. 30 after being extended in late June.

At that time, the government lifted the vaccine requirement for domestic and outbound travellers but kept it for inbound travellers. Unvaccinated travellers were still subject to random testing and quarantine requirements.
