Canada is still reeling from the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at the sites of former boarding schools across the country, believed to be mainly of Indigenous children. Over 150,000 were sent to the state and church-run schools, where they were forbidden from speaking their own languages and often abused and mistreated. Cindy Blackstock, executive director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, tells The World native communities are using ground surveys to prove what many have known for decades.
