Global News published this video item, entitled “Canada election: Tories propose addiction solutions; NDP pays tribute to Jack Layton” – below is their description.

While campaigning in British Columbia, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole says his party aims to help those with drug addictions amid the opioid crisis. If elected, the party leader said he will commit as much as $325 million for 1,000 new beds and 50 recovery centres, $1 billion for Indigenous mental health and addictions, as well as free access to naloxone kits across the country.

As Abigail Bimman explains, the pitch is more progressive than usual for the Tories, but advocates say it doesn’t go far enough.

Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh stopped by Toronto on Sunday to pay tribute to the late Jack Layton, 10 years after the influential party leader behind the “Orange Crush” passed away. Singh proposed renaming the Toronto-Danforth riding in honour of Layton – a move some believe could be politically opportunistic in the middle of an election campaign.

Mike Le Couteur has more on Singh’s tribute, and also takes a deeper look into his personal campaign style throughout the election trail.
