Despite weeks of protests, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not freed his staunchest opponent Alexei Navalny and police have taken thousands of protesters calling for his release into custody.
Canada and the U.S. are both condemning the move by Russia and urging protesters be released.
But as Ross Lord reports, while police imposed a security lockdown in Moscow, some say it won’t work forever.
Alexei Navalny is a Russian opposition leader, politician, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist. He came to international prominence by organizing demonstrations and running for office to advocate reforms against corruption in Russia, president Vladimir Putin, and Putin’s government.
