Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair announced on Friday the addition of four new entities, three groups and one individual, to the country’s list of terrorist entities under the Criminal Code.
Among the groups is U.S. right-wing militia group Three Percenters, which Blair said had an active presence in Canada and could threaten national security.
Earlier this month U.S. prosecutors obtained a conspiracy indictment against six men associated with the Three Percenters, the latest in a series of such charges arising from the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by former President Donald Trump’s supporters.
Blair’s Parliamentary Secretary Joël Lightbound spoke during the briefing as well.
Recently, four right-wing extremist groups, including the Proud Boys, have been placed on Canada’s list of terrorist organizations amid an apparent crackdown on far-right violence. Five affiliates of ISIS, three al-Qaida affiliates and Hizbul Mujahedin were also listed.
Being on the list makes it more difficult for groups to operate, and their property can be seized.
