While the UK’s vaccination rate is speeding up, the country is struggling to keep infections down.
Some senior ministers are demanding tougher penalties for those who do not obey lockdown rules while, on the other hand, the government has not yet decided whether or not to offer fixed payments to people required to isolate.
In the meantime, workers without the financial safety net that would allow them to stay home are still out and about because they cannot afford to stay home.
