But senior political analyst Douglass Sloan calls for drastic measures since another mass shooting might be waiting around the corner. Lack of political will is a major hurdle for effective gun control, especially in a country with a history of “racism and systemic discrimination.” It’s also time to scrutinize how far the Second Amendment has veered off from its original intention. The gun lobby uses it today to defend the right to bear arms but it was originally conceived to give fire power to state-regulated militias to ensure the security of the fledgling American state.
