During the summer of bushfires, a wildlife sanctuary in south-east New south Wales was directly in the firing line, when three bushfires converged.
Carer Peter Day and his wife had minutes to escape and when they eventually returned, there were countless animals in need of urgent attention.
Help ended up coming from a New Zealand-based group, prompting calls for a more integrated and rapid response to future fires.
