ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Calls for peace and humanitarian relief in Ethiopia’s war-torn Tigray region | The World” – below is their description.
Thousands continue to flee escalating violence in Ethiopia’s war-torn Tigray region. For months fighting between the country’s government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front has seen thousands killed and many more displaced. The alleged atrocities and worsening refugee crisis has sparked international attention with a 24-hour live-streamed vigil calling for peace and humanitarian relief. UNHCR Ethiopia spokesperson Chris Melzer tells The World his organisation has heard stories of people sleeping in open fields, drinking puddle water and eating tree-bark and roots just to survive.
