Millions of people turn to Facebook groups every day to chat about their hobbies, seek advice or to find out what’s going on in their neighbourhood.
These groups are a goldmine for the social media giant, as they’re popular with advertisers, yet they also havens for misinformation and hate speech.
Despite being revenue earners they’re mostly run by unpaid administrators, prompting calls for Facebook to take more responsibility for its volunteer workforce.
