California’s drought-desiccated timber and grasslands have created a potent fuel for wildfires raging across the state.

Powerful images over the weekend showed the path of destruction the Caldor fire has carved across California’s El Dorado County, as firefighters fought to contain the flames.

The fire has burned through 30,000 acres over the weekend and in total has destroyed 104,000 acres. It is only five per cent contained, according to Cal Fire.
