Burnley will issue lifetime bans to supporters responsible for a ‘White Lives Matter’ banner flown over the Etihad Stadium, with captain Ben Mee describing the club as “ashamed and embarrassed” by the stunt.
It is understood both clubs had intelligence of the light aircraft carrying a banner before the match but had not been able to prevent the incident.
It comes after players and staff from all clubs have been taking a knee during the opening matches of Project Restart in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to fight racism which has spread globally since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the hands of the police.
