Tokyo’s Burmese community marched in their dozens through the streets of Japan’s capital to protest the recent military coup in Myanmar, holding images of detained State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese politician, diplomat, author, and a 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate who served as State Counsellor of Myanmar and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2016 to 2021.
A coup d’état or just coup is the removal and seizure of a government and its powers. Typically, it is an illegal, unconstitutional seizure of power by a political faction, the military, or a dictator.
