Bristol Statue of Edward Colston Pulled From Water After Toppled by Protesters

The statue of the 17th-century slave trader Edward Colston that was thrown into Bristol’s harbor amid anti-racism protests was retrieved from the water on June 11 by the city council, who said it would be taken to a “secure location.”

Video from June 7 showed the Colston statue being thrown in the harbor and a crowd cheering as it sank.

Bristol City Council said the statue could not remain in what was a working harbor.

It said the statue would later form part of city’s museums collection.
