U.S. President Joe Biden said Friday that bringing the COVID-19 pandemic “under control” tops the agenda for both the United States and Japan during a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, following his first face-to-face meeting with a foreign leader.

Biden highlighted the work done to “expand the manufacturing” of COVID-19 vaccines and help with the administration of vaccines throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

The president added that a focus of their meeting was on security, amid increasing aggression from China in the South and East China seas and potential threats from North Korea.

Biden also talked about other areas of cooperation between the two nations, in areas including 5G infrastructure and climate change.
