To honor the brave men and women fighting COVID-19. Today we look back at the brilliant minds from China and abroad who shared their wisdom from the front lines. Among them are three world-renowned doctors who were sent by the National Health Commission in January to investigate the initial outbreak in Wuhan. These three doctors are Dr. Zhong Nanshan, Chinese respiratory expert and director of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases; Dr. Du Bin, director of Medical ICU, Peking Union Medical College Hospital; and Dr. Gao Fu, Chinese CDC director.
While Wuhan was China’s one-time epicenter, Shanghai is a city that has emerged relatively unscathed by the virus. Shanghai’s ability to keep the virus at bay was thanks to its anti-COVID-19 clinical expert team. This team was helmed by Dr. Zhang Wenhong, professor and head of the Center for Infectious Diseases of Huashan Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai.
Finally China’s lessons can be replicated throughout the world thanks to a team of international experts organized by the World Health Organization that came to China to help investigate the country’s COVID-19 epidemic in early February. Dr. Bruce Aylward is assistant director-general of the WHO and was also the co-head of the China-WHO Joint Mission.
