Breonna Taylor death: 4 police officers charged in connection with fatal raid

Global News published this video item, entitled “Breonna Taylor death: 4 police officers charged in connection with fatal raid” – below is their description.

The family of Breonna Taylor, a Black woman killed in 2020 and whose death was part of what fueled anti-racism protests that year, said that the federal civil rights charges filed against four Louisville police officers were “overdue.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the charges in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, with the allegations ranging from deprivation of rights to conspiracy.

“Breonna Taylor should be alive today,” he said.

Among the charges, Garland alleges two officers, who were not on scene when the shooting happened, both knew the warrant used to search Taylor’s home had information that was “false, misleading and out of date.”

In Louisville, civil rights attorney Ben Crump was joined by Breonna’s mother Tamika Palmer and other activists who had fought on behalf of the family, with Crump calling the charges “profound.”

“What happened today was profound because you have willful deprivation of Breonna Taylor’s constitutional rights that led to her death. I mean, that is a profound statement,” he told reporters.

Palmer added that the allegations laid reinforce “what we’ve been saying was the truth.”
