Recent from CGTN:
CGTN published this video item, entitled “Breaking stereotypes with wedding gowns in Xinjiang” – below is their description.
In Xinjiang, traditions still hold that women aren’t allowed to leave the house freely and dress as they wish. Even wearing a white gown in wedding is not accepted in some areas. Samira Arkin, who owns a bridal shop in Kashgar, wants women to embrace their independence and openly express their wish to be beautiful.
This is one of many stories in CGTN’s exclusive documentary “Beyond the Mountains: Life in Xinjiang.” Watch the full documentary here:

In This Story: Xinjiang
Xinjiang, an autonomous territory in northwest China, is a vast region of deserts and mountains. It’s home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Turkic Uyghur people. The ancient Silk Road trade route linking China and the Middle East passed through Xinjiang, a legacy that can be seen in the traditional open-air bazaars of its oasis cities, Hotan and Kashgar.
