Students will be awarded the grades predicted by their teachers for their A-level and GCSE results as the government scrapped the controversial Ofqual algorithm that saw nearly 40% of results downgraded.

Ofqual chair Roger Taylor apologised, saying it “simply has not been an acceptable experience for young people”.
