BREAKING: Debenhams to cut 2,500 jobs

Sky News reported that struggling department store, Debenhams has announced it will cut 2,500 jobs in stores and warehouses.

Department store Debenhams plans to cut 2,500 jobs due to the company struggling from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement comes after figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed 81,000 net fewer people on payrolls last month alone, despite continuing support for employers via government loans and the Job Retention Scheme for furloughed workers.

While the company has blamed the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic for the job cuts, it has to be noted that the ailing department store has been in trouble for some time, first entering into administration in April 2019, before doing so again around a year later in April 2020.

The store is still accepting online orders.
