The Amazon forest is once again target of fires, as over 2,000 have been reported since early June. Although the start of the dry season always sees blazes, but this year’s is believed to be much worse than 2019. Last August, World leaders criticised President Jair Bolsonaro for his inaction over fires. This comes as Brazil shows no sign of a drop in the rate of coronavirus infections of fatalities: the country surpassed 60,000 total deaths, recording around 1,000 fatalities per day.
