Brazil: Rio 2016 cost will pay off

Leonardo Picciani, Brazil’s sports minister, has told Al Jazeera that the estimated $30bn cost for this year’s Olympics and the 2014 World Cup was money well spent.

Brazil is currently coping with one of the worst financial crisis ever seen in the country and Rio has seen a spike in violence.

But Picciani said the benefits brought by the Olympics will continue to pay off for a future generation.

Al Jazeera’s Joanna Gasiorowska reports.
