Brazil records highest daily death toll, though president continues to oppose lockdown

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro continues to downplay the virus, even as experts fear the true extent of cases in the country is much higher than officially reported. On Tuesday the country registered its highest Covid-19 death toll for a single day, with 881 new deaths confirmed over the past 24 hours.
