Brazil nabs Olympic official for ‘illegal’ ticket sales

The head of the Irish Olympic Council is in police custody in Rio de Janeiro – after being arrested on suspicion of illegally selling tickets on the black market.

Patrick Hickey – who is also President of the European Olympic Committees – attempted to escape when officers came to arrest him in his hotel – according to police.

The 71 year old was taken ill during his arrest and is being treated in hospital.
As part of the same investigation an Irish businessman was arrested on the first day of the Games – in possession of 800 tickets.
